Projects
Matt’s work centers on collaborative performance across solo, chamber, and ensemble contexts, with a particular focus on contemporary repertoire and long-form musical processes. The projects below represent his primary artistic collaborations and ongoing performance work.
The Percussion Collective
The Percussion Collective is an all star group of percussionists from the legendary studio of Robert van Sice at Yale. Matt began as part of the group’s new young artists program (similar to the Bowers program at CMS). Inside the young artists program Matt helped launch a series of concerts for children which involved a small tour consisting of 10 concerts in the fall of 2025, bringing music to public school students of all ages in New Haven, Connecticut. In 2026 Matt will debut with the primary group in Boston, Massachusetts.
illume Duo (Marimba + Violin)
illume duo (Marimba + Violin) explores both existing and newly commissioned repertoire for the instrumentation, emphasizing clarity of sound, rhythmic precision, and collaborative dialogue. Programs include original works by Paul Lansky, Gunther Schuller, and Peter Klatzow. We also play transcriptions such as music by Astor Piazzolla and Arvo Pärt.
Solo Recitals
Alongside collaborative projects, Matt Boyle maintains an active solo recital practice focused on contemporary and twentieth-century repertoire for percussion. His programs explore complex emotions, structural listening, and works that explore time-based musical structures, and frequently include premieres and collaborations with living composers. Recent performances have taken place in recital and concert settings throughout the United States and Europe, including appearances in Harris Recital Hall (Aspen CO) and Fitzrovia Chapel (London, UK)
